What is it and how can Laser Therapy help?

The plantar fascia is a thick band of fibrous connective tissue that runs from the calcaneus (heel bone) out to the toes. This connective tissue plays a vital role in connecting the bones of the foot while also aiding in the formation of the arches in your foot. Plantar fasciitis is a condition in which this connective tissue becomes inflamed and painful which makes it difficult to be active.

Causes of Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is most commonly an overuse injury.  Standing for prolonged periods, running or other repetitive sports that put pressure on the feet, and poorly supportive shoes are some of the causes of plantar fasciitis. However, flat feet, being overweight, and performing activities without properly stretching or warming up can also lead to this painful condition.

How can Laser Therapy help?

Class IV cold laser therapy is a great treatment option for plantar fasciitis.  It is a conservative option that reduces the inflammation and heals the tissue. Inflammation is a primary driver of pain. When you reduce inflammation with the laser, you subsequently see a reduction in pain. The longer inflammation is present, the more potential tissue damage can occur. The laser works on a cellular level to repair damaged tissue thereby leading to healing and lasting relief.Common disorders of the disc can include: disc degeneration and disc herniation. Degenerative disc disease is a condition in which the disc, over time, loses its elasticity and flexibility. This leads to stiffness, immobility, pain, and potentially impingement of the spinal nerves.

Is Laser Therapy right for you?

Laser therapy is a safe, conservative therapy that is great for many conditions. If you are experiencing foot pain and do not want to have painful injections, take prescription or over-the-counter medications and risk the side effects, call today and set up an evaluation to see if Class IV cold laser therapy is an option for you.
